Easy Ways to Power Wash Your Home’s Deck

Easy Ways to Power Wash Your Home’s Deck

It isn’t too early to learn how to give your deck a vigorous cleaning with a power wash.

Your deck is an awesome space for you and your loved ones to gather and enjoy the great outdoors. Whether for dining, entertainment, or relaxation, a deck is an excellent place to spend time, especially while you’re hosting. With so much time being spent on decks, you’ll need to make sure that it is being used correctly and taken care of. The more it’s used, the more maintenance and cleaning it could require. Especially once it reaches fall and winter, it is likely to take a beating from the change of seasons. As a result, it isn’t too early to learn how to give your deck a vigorous cleaning with a power wash to help freshen up its appearance. However, before you go and buy or rent a power washer, there are a few things to remember if you are new to power washing. Read on to learn more!

The Power Part of the Washer

The name “power washer” isn’t simply given for flash, but for substance too. What is meant by that is that the power washer packs a lot of force, meaning you have to be mindful and smart while using it. If a power washer isn’t used correctly, it has the potential of actually doing a bit of damage to your deck. That is why it is important that the nozzle doesn’t get too close to your home’s deck and that you’re a few feet away from it. Also, for safety purposes, you’ll want to mind where you’re pointing the nozzle of the power washer, or else it could hurt other parts of your property. Make sure you never use it on any people or pets, as it can hurt a lot.

Test Runs for Your Power Washer

A power washer has various settings and configurations that are appropriate for certain situations, so you’ll need to find out what is good for you and your deck. Before you power wash your deck, set your power washer to the lowest setting and see how it works on a small part of your deck. Slowly raise the pressure up until you’ve found a level that works. There are also different kinds of nozzles you can use, but use a wider one for your home’s deck.

Wood Decks

Also, if you have a wood deck, remember that they can be easily harmed by a power washer. If you do not own a power washer, you don’t have to worry about renting or buying one for cleaning your wood deck. If you do decide on using a power washer for your wood deck, keep it on a low setting.
