Keeping your pergola lit should be a fun task, after all there are so many options and all of them are going to provide you the same basic benefits.

Keeping your pergola lit should be a fun task, after all there are so many options and all of them are going to provide you the same basic benefits. You may choose to go a traditional route like adding lights to posts or rafters or go with something more elegant like a chandelier, but no matter what you choose, it’ll certainly make the space more usable and create a better atmosphere! Where do you begin? Take a look at some of these fun ideas for keeping your pergola lit all throughout the night, enhancing your outdoor space even more.

The DIY Route

If you’re looking for a fun project, we’d definitely recommend the DIY route. However, if you want something more professional and buttoned up, bring a pro on for the job. Either way, you’re going to end up with a pergola you love.

String Lighting

As far as ease of installation, string lights are just about as easy as it can get. They come in a variety of colors, sizes, and bulb types so you can really customize your lights to match your personal sense of style. You can weave the lights through the rafters of the pergola and around the posts but remember, you’re going to need to connect the lights to a power source of some kind.

If you want to be more unique, look for icicle lights or lights that have a garland intertwined in them. While they may be more of a holiday vibe, you can pull them off year-round and have an outdoor space that looks like no other.

Jar Lights

Get cute by grabbing some mason jars, putting battery operated string lights in them, and boom! You’ve got light trapped in a jar ready to go. Just sprinkle them around the corners of your pergola or on a table and you have simple, elegant lighting. The great part about this is that there are so many different sizes of jars and colors of lights out there that you can switch it up from time to time for very little additional cost.

Natural Lighting

Fire is simple yet timeless. A fire pit or fireplace not only provide that added light, but they also add some warmth and make the space more usable throughout the year. They aren’t as quick and easy as the other options but that additional benefit makes it an appealing route for sure!
