Four Spring Maintenance Tips For Your Wooden Deck

Eastern Shore Porch Patio Wooden Deck

Utilize these helpful tips.

If you own a wooden deck, it will likely take a lot of ear and tear. This is only natural, and it’s a good indicator that you’re getting as good usage out of your deck. Over time, foot traffic and exposure to sunlight or other natural elements can end up causing some damage. Caring for a wood deck can be challenging, but we have you covered. Use these tips for keeping your wood deck look in good condition.

Prevent Grease Accumulation

Many people use their wood deck as an outdoor cooking space by installing a grill. That’s a great way to use your deck, but you do want to remember always to use a grease catcher. If you don’t use a grease catcher, you risk grease stains building up within your deck which can be challenging to remove.

Sweep Your Deck

Take the time to regularly sweep your deck off and prevent the accumulation of dirt or leaves. These can ultimately stain your deck and cause issues if left unattended.

Seal Your Wooden Deck

Your deck should be permanently sealed. This should be done every three years, which protects against the natural elements and prevents fading or discoloration. You can do this yourself, but the deck’s surface must be cleaned entirely, and if doing it yourself, you may want to do it annually to ensure you’re covering your bases and providing your deck is in optimal condition.

Do Repairs Promptly

If any damage occurs, you want to take care of it sooner rather than later. Rotted boards need to be replaced immediately. Otherwise, you may have to replace the entire deck later. Taking the time to tighten loose boards or railings and loose components can make your deck unsafe.
