What You Should Know About Porch Enclosures

Porch Enclosures

Brush up on the basics of porch enclosures and see what one can do for you.

Thinking about adding some extra room to enjoy your home in? Porch enclosures are such a fantastic way to do so. You can take advantage of the porch that’s already attached to your home or build a brand new porch to accommodate whatever your needs are. At times, all it takes to create a porch enclosure is to add glass or screen panels along with the right kinds of flooring, though it really depends on how much you’re trying to get out of it or what kind of porch enclosure you want. If you want to expand the amount of use you can get out of your home, consider what porch enclosures can add for you.

Three Season or Four Season

Typically, you’re going to hear a distinction between three season or four season porch enclosures. The distinction is actually pretty clear. If you want to use the space as a year-round living space, then you’re going to want to ensure that it’s completely weatherproofed and properly insulated. Being certain that you’re still going to have enough heat during those cold winter months is just a critical part in having a four season room. On the other hand, if using your porch enclosure during winter isn’t necessary and you just want to take advantage of it during the more temperate months, you may not need to worry about weather-proofing.

Additional Windows

Adding windows and window frames is a great way to upgrade your porch and develop the kinds of porch enclosures that work for you. As far as options go, using code-specific glass planes or having a combination of glass and screen window elements are both great ways to open up the area and help promote air circulation. This still prevents bugs from getting in but goes a long way in making it feel as though you’re actually outside. Just make sure to include window grill designs in your frames if you’re concerned about security.

Walls and Doorways

Part of making porch enclosures usable is by installing enclosure walls and doorways. You want to balance out windows and walls so you keep the space feeling open, but walls are nonetheless pretty important.
